It was over before it ever started. All that remained was how many points the No. 2-ranked Texas Longhorns would score. In the end Texas won in an expected blowout, 64-7 over the UTEP Miners in front of 101,144 on Saturday.

After a pair of slow starts against Wyoming on the road and at home last week against Texas Tech, the Longhorns got off to a fast start against the Miners. Stephen McGeeís numbers as a quarterback for Burnet High School, a small community an hour northwest of Austin, were impressive.

He finished his high school career with a combined record of 36-5 and a 28-2 mark his junior and senior seasons. McGee and University of Texas receiver Jordan Shipley, a longtime friend, combined to lead Burnet to appearances in the 3A state finals in both 2002 and 2003. McGee finished his career with a 3A state-record 101 passing touchdowns and 8,256 passing yards. His senior year he completed 196 of 313 passes for 3,579 yards with 47 touchdowns and three interceptions. He earned the 3A Offensive Most Valuable Player in Texas.  Read more...

Texas Tech quarterback Taylor Potts finished the night completing 46 out of 62 for 405 yards and 3 TDs.
Texas quarterback and Heisman candidate Colt McCoy went 24 of 35 for 205 yards and 1 TD.

The 101,297 fans at Royal-Memorial Stadium on Saturday night were witness to a first half of two sluggish offenses combined with good defense, followed by a second half full of offensive fireworks.
The defensive struggle of the first half resulted in just one touchdown, a 46-yard punt return from Jordan Shipley. Texas led 10-3 heading into the break.  Read more...

This season many of the so-called college football experts expect the University of Florida and the University of Texas to stay entrenched in their 1-2 poll rankings throughout the season and meet at the BCS national title game at the Rose Bowl. On Saturday in Wyoming, for one half the Longhorns didnít look like a team even destined for a mid-tier bowl game, much less the national championship.

With temps in the 50s, a bit breezy, and a hostile Wyoming crowd of less than 40,000, the Longhorns came out flat, and thatís putting it nicely. Texas quarterback Colt McCoy looked lost. On multiple occasions McCoy made throws that looked like a freshman, not a veteran quarterback who is the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy this season.  Read more...

When the University of Texas football team began the 2009 season on Saturday night at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium, no Longhorn fan figured that the Warhawks from Lousiana-Monroe would pose a threat, much less affect the Longhorn nation and its national title hopes.  By the conclusion of Saturday
