Texas-Wyoming Game Recap

This season many of the so-called college football experts expect the University of Florida and the University of Texas to stay entrenched in their 1-2 poll rankings throughout the season and meet at the BCS national title game at the Rose Bowl. On Saturday in Wyoming, for one half the Longhorns didnít look like a team even destined for a mid-tier bowl game, much less the national championship.

With temps in the 50s, a bit breezy, and a hostile Wyoming crowd of less than 40,000, the Longhorns came out flat, and thatís putting it nicely. Texas quarterback Colt McCoy looked lost. On multiple occasions McCoy made throws that looked like a freshman, not a veteran quarterback who is the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy this season.

Monday Night Football Begins

NE Patriots Cheerleaders

NE Patriots Cheerleaders

The 2009 NFL Monday Night Football Schedule kicks off with an opening night double-header feathering the Bills at the Patriots and then the Chargers at the Raiders.

All eyes will be on Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in game one as the Pro Bowl signal caller will see his first regular season action in about a year. He looked sharp in the preseason, but only time will tell if there are truly any lingering affects from the season-ending knee injury he suffered in week one a year ago.

Texas Rangers Pitching

If the Texas Rangers make it into the playoffs in 2009, the season will understandably be considered a huge success. Even if the Rangers get edged out by the Angels in the AL West or the Red Sox in the AL Wild Card, which are both possibilities, the season will still be considered a success not only because of the final overall record, but how it all happened.

It actually all started two years ago when Rangers owner Tom Hicks introduced Nolan Ryan as the team president. Since that time, the Rangers organization has gone from having one of the perennial worst pitching staffs in the Major Leagues, to one of the better ones.

The Penguins meet President Obama

WASHINGTON, DC — Visiting the White House is a special occasion. Being there because of hockey is even better. Having President Barack Obama speaking about hockey is the best.

President Obama came prepared, unlike President George H.W. Bush was 18 years ago. The 1990-1991 Pittsburgh Penguins were the first Stanley Cup champions to visit the White House, but President George H.W. Bush’s “and you are?” question to Mario Lemieux is still something a lot of fans remember unhappily.

Media, gathered close to the West Wing, were waiting for President Obama’s meeting with members of the Congress to be over. Some of the staffers wondered what all these other people doing there talking about hockey.

OU – BYU Game Summary

When the University of Texas football team began the 2009 season on Saturday night at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium, no Longhorn fan figured that the Warhawks from Lousiana-Monroe would pose a threat, much less affect the Longhorn nation and its national title hopes.  By the conclusion of Saturday
’s game, the landscape of college football had changed alright, and it had done so in Texas, just not in Austin.
